Pathways To Nature

Trail Building & Stewardship | Environmental Conservation & Education

The Trail Is The Teacher

At Rolling Horizons, the trail isn’t just where the journey happens—it is the journey.

Through building, maintaining, and protecting trails, we reconnect with the land and reclaim our role as stewards. These are pathways to nature, but also to resilience, belonging, and responsibility.

We don’t just use trails.
We create them—with intention, with care, and with community.

What We Build

Community Trail Projects

We work hand-in-hand with local municipalities, schools, landowners, and conservation groups to restore, maintain, and expand trail networks.

  • Greene Community Nature Trails (GCNT) – Restoration, Short Track design, XC course build
  • Lions Park – Jump lines resurfacing, singletrack loop maintenance, Connector Trail construction
  • Thorn Ridge Bike Park – Flow trail dressing, feature tuning, collaboration with TREC
  • Summit Acres Wetland Reserve – Environmental education and low-impact trail development (2025 pilot)

Youth Trail Works Crews

Our youth-led Trail Works Crews put tools in hands and values in motion. They learn design, safety, conservation, and responsibility while shaping trails their community will use for years to come.

  • Trail Captain roles for youth
  • Mentorship from seasoned trail builders
  • Hands-on experience in sustainable design
  • Service learning opportunities

“When you build it, you understand it. When you understand it, you protect it.”

Environmental Education & Stewardship

We believe trail building must go hand-in-hand with learning and respect for the land.

Our Nature Education Series integrates field-based workshops into all trail-related programming.

  • Soils, plants, and trees
  • Wildlife and bird habitats
  • Water flow, erosion control, wetlands
  • Conservation ethics and Leave No Trace principles

Programs are open to youth, educators, and volunteers.

Upcoming Projects & Events
